Deschutes Reveals Jubelale Label Art

A look at the 2011 Jubelale label art by Cara Thayer and Louie Van Patten.

It's not quite fall, let alone winter...in fact it's hot as all hell, but Deschutes Brewery, in what's becoming an annual tradition, just revealed the label art for their popular winter beer, Jubelale.

Since its creation, Jubelale has always featured a different label, typically by a regional artist, each year.

As we pointed out in last week's paper, the label was created by two of Bend's most talented painters: Cara Thayer and Louie Van Patten. This married couple paints collaboratively on one canvas and are also big time beer fans.

“We wanted to create something for the outside of the bottle that was as artful as what is inside. Our goal was to do something that had a sense of action, along with creating a playful image," Thayer said about the label, "The beer itself was hugely inspirational for the painting, as craft beer is an art that we respect. For us, drinking Jubelale every winter is a memorable highlight of the season.”

OK, you've seen the label, but you're going to have to wait a few weeks to taste the beer, which hits store shelves at the beginning of October.

And here's more of Thayer and Van Patten's work.
