In this week's Left Field column, I wrote about how Hank Williams Jr.'s dreadful opening song to Monday Night Football was pulled this week after the son of the country legend appeared on Fox News and, among other bizarre statements, called the president and vice president of the United States "the enemy."
Today, ESPN announced that they would no longer be requiring Williams' service and that the song would no longer open Monday Night Football.
Williams returned fire with a "You can't fire me because I quit" response. Here's what he posted on his website.
After reading hundreds of e-mails, I have made MY decision. By pulling my opening Oct 3rd, You (ESPN) stepped on the Toes of The First Amendment Freedom of Speech, so therefore Me, My Song, and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT OF HERE. It's been a great run. - Hank Williams Jr.
