KPOV’s Annual Birthday Party & Beatles Singalong

Central Oregon will soon have an opportunity to sing and dance to some of The Beatles’ greatest hits as played by six local bands. KPOV 88.9 FM, High Desert Community Radio, is holding its 11th birthday party and annual Beatles Singalong, June 10 from 7:00 to 10:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon, 61980 Skyline Ranch Rd in Bend.

KPOV is the only non-profit community radio station originating from Bend, broadcasting throughout Deschutes County and the Prineville area. The community station is supported by listeners and local businesses, and powered by over 100 volunteers.

Each June KPOV brings the community together for a celebration featuring live versions of Beatles hits played by local bands. Lyrics are projected on-screen and the audience is invited to sing along. The KPOV birthday party is always a sell-out event, which is why the station moved the event to the larger venue at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon for this year.

The Beatles Singalong has become a KPOV tradition, bringing our listeners together to sing and dance to great live music in celebration of KPOV’s birthday,” says KPOV Board member and event organizer Rick Miller. “In addition to being fun for the audience, the Singalong also gives local musicians a chance to gain exposure to new audiences, while having fun playing Beatles tunes themselves,” Miller added.
Local bands Corner Gospel Explosion, Juju Eyeball, Truck Stop Gravy, Butterfly Breakdown, Thomas T and the Blue Chips, and Stronghold will be playing their versions of classic Beatles songs.

As if live Beatles covers, singing and dancing were not enough, the 2016 KPOV Beatles Singalong will also feature a costume contest with prizes, a raffle for an electric guitar, and a silent auction. Beer, wine, and food will be served.

Sponsors of the Beatles Singalong include Moonfire and Sun Garden Center, Dogs Ltd & Training, Action Print, Three Creeks Brewing, Volcano Vineyards, Sunday Guitars, and Face Painting with Willow.

KPOV is a listener-supported, volunteer-powered, nonprofit community radio station that broadcasts at 88.9 FM and streams live on the web at kpov.org and smart phone apps. High Desert Community Radio offers locally-produced programs not heard on any other radio stations in the area, including civic affairs, election coverage, and the most diverse music programming in Central Oregon. KPOV is the only Central Oregon radio station to broadcast several national syndicates shows, including Alternative Radio, Counterspin, and the acclaimed Democracy Now!
