Our Picks for the Week of 12/24-1/1

Holiday Show with The Erins
friday 26

You know what? It's pretty nice to have the Erins back in town, especially around the holidays. For this day-after-Christmas show, which is part of Parrilla's Winter Music Series, expect both Erin Cole Baker and Erin Zurflu to spread plenty of holiday cheer-or whatever sort of cheer you like best. A stalwart of the local music scene before heading out east, the girls (both of 'em) are back in town and this should be a don't-miss show for their loyal following. 7pm. Parrilla Grill, 635 NW 14th St.

Milk - Special Showing
friday 26

At least one Source writer has already seen this film, and from what he has to say, it looks like all of the Oscar buzz surrounding the flick is warranted. The film opens in Bend on Christmas day, and is followed by this special showing to benefit the Human Dignity Coalition. Before taking in killer performances by Sean Penn and the rest of the film's star-studded cast, you can participate in a silent auction to help the HDC. 3pm Friday, Dec 26. Pilot Butte 6, 2717 E Hwy 20. 317-8309.

Lisa C. Pollock

saturday 27

We were glad to catch wind of this show, which is a homecoming performance by Pollock, who has relocated to LA. Pollock plays graceful rock-laced folk number reminiscent of Sheryl Crow or possibly the emerging Jesse Baylin. Joining her for this show is a team of notable local musicians including Scott Wyatt, David Miller and others. Give a listen to her at myspace.com/lisacpollock and also check out the photos that feature a gorgeous Pollock along with an even more gorgeous vinyl collection. 8pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co. 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

Pre-New Year's Eve Party
saturday 27

This is a weird holiday season in that both Christmas and New Year's fall on Thursdays, which means that we're left with a couple weekends that aren't really holidays, but still feel quite festive. The weekend between Christmas and New Years is one of those and thanks to the new folks at the Old Mill Martini Bar, you can take a practice run at New Year's Eve with this special "Pre-New Year's Eve Party." The lineup of DJs includes: Featuring Defekt-N-Jones, Kruse, Mez, Lessin and DJ Nykon. If you haven't seen Defekt-N-Jones, the duo uses live keyboards and turntables to create some danceable, yet innovative tunes. 10pm. Old Mill Martini Bar. 360 SW Powerhouse Dr.

New Year's Eve
wednesday 31

If you turn the page, as you're likely to do, you'll find a whole rundown of what's going on in town for New Year's Eve...but we suggest coming to the Source's own Wig Out party at the Old Stone. But whatever you do, remember to stay safe out there and watch out for the amateurs who use NYE as their one time of the year to hit the town. And hit it they do-quite ridiculously.

Polar Bear Plunge
thursday 1

The first pick of 2009 goes to this time-tested tradition in which seemingly sane people toss themselves into a terrifyingly cold body of water. If you had a really late New Year's Eve, this could be a good way to wake yourself up and get yourself moving on all those lofty New Year's resolutions you set for yourself. And if one of your resolutions was to catch hypothermia, then you're well on your way! 10am Thursday, Jan 1. Sunriver Resort, 1 Center Dr, Sunriver.

Tony n' Tina's Wedding
opening tuesday 30

Weddings can get a little awkward, we all know that. But this interactive piece of theater makes things intentionally awkward, and intentionally hilarious. In this play that was originally performed 20 years ago, the actors, including bride and groom Tony and Tina, wrap you into the craziness of their nutty wedding day. Parts of this faux wedding will feel quite authentic - and you'll be eating authentic food, as well at this full dinner theater performance. Dress nice...it's a wedding fer Pete's sake! Opens 6:30pm Tuesday, Dec 30. Bend Community Center, 1036 NE 5th St. 312-2069. $75/person (includes meal).
