Our Picks for the Week of 6/25-7/1

Bend Pride '09
through saturday 27

The fifth annual celebration of cultural tolerance is well underway with an Open Mic for Rights on Wednesday 6/24 (7pm) at the Silver Moon Brewing Co. On Thursday 6/25, the whole family is invited to an evening of outdoor, old-fashioned "Gaymes" at Juniper Park (5-8pm). The all-ages Queer Prom is Friday night (8pm), and you're welcome to don your sweetest prom attire (which is required) and get down to DJs Babylove and Lucius to support the Human Dignity Coalition's Queer and Allied Youth Program. The big event is Saturday for the Pride Festival on Troy Field (1pm) where you can meet up at Troy Field and decorate your bike before riding through downtown. If you need more details, visit humandignitycoalition.org.

Rainn Wilson: Art and Faith
thursday 25

Check out our interview with Mr. Wilson (better known as Dwight from The Office) in the Culture section and then head to the Old Stone this Thursday night and see Wilson's discussion regarding faith and creativity. 7:30pm. Spiritual Awareness Community at Old Stone Church, 157 NW Franklin Ave.

Finn Riggins and Empty Wotta
friday 26

Turn to the Sound section and read about this impressively rocking band out of Idaho. Empty Space Orchestra collides with Mosley Wotta to become Empty Wotta and open the show. 9pm. $5. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival
friday-sunday 26-28

One of the biggest weekends in all of Central Oregon sports takes place this weekend down in Sunriver in the form of the Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival. If you're an outdoor athlete and there's nothing here for you, you're probably not an outdoor athlete. Check out the list of events: Long Course Triathlon, Endurance Duathlon, Marathon & Half Marathon, Olympic Distance Triathlon & Duathalon, 5K & 10K Run/Walks, and a Kid's Splash Pedal-n-Dash Triathlon. www.racecenter.com/pacificcrest. Sunriver.

Crooked River Roundup Rodeo
friday-sunday 26-28

The first half of the Roundup is this weekend out in Prineville with the rodeo portion of the event taking place Friday through Sunday. And you can come back (as the Source staff is doing en masse) on July 8-11 for the horse race section of the event, with a weekend off in between to rest your horse-loving bones. Visit crookedriverroundup.com for tickets and more info.

Eric Tollefson
saturday 27

We profiled Tollefson, albeit briefly, in the Local Music Issue back in May. Tollefson, a soulful singer songwriter is joined by a stellar local backing band that includes Patrick Pearsall and Lindsey Elias to help him pump out the blues-meets-pop-rock numbers that can be found on his recently released disc The Sum of Parts. 9pm. $5. Silver Moon Brewery, 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

Person People
saturday 27

After remaining relatively quiet since their CD release show in February, the super-sized band of local hip-hop warriors is back on the warpath with this show at the Tulen Center. And as most local music fans know, whenever Person People take the stage, there's sure to be a sizeable faction of PP Heads in tow. Expect fireworks - not literally - at this rare show. Also on the bill are special guests Blind Citizens and DJ Barisone. 21 and up. 9pm. $6. Tulen Center, 20 NW Greenwood Ave.

Erin Cole-Baker
sunday 28

This local singer-songwriter plays what is by far her largest stage along with a backing band as part of the Summer Sundays concert series. Best known as one-half of The Erins, Cole-Baker has a strong song list of her own mostly folky numbers. And hey, the weather finally looks good! Bonus! 2:30pm-4:30pm. Free. Les Schwab Amphitheater, 344 SW Shevlin-Hixon Dr.

Mt. Bachelor Summer Kick Off Party
sunday 28

Bachelor is opening up for the summer and celebrating with a day of fun up on the mountain. Music from local band The Ticks, horseshoes, disc golf, face painting and more. 11am-4pm. Pine Marten Lodge, Mt. Bachelor. $5, Kids 12 and under free, Season pass holders free.

JOYES Fashion Show
tuesday 30

Mosley Wotta (making his third appearance on the Picks Page) is the host of this fashion show for Rescue in which he shows off painted and "hand-arted" clothing of his own making. If you didn't know, MoWo is a visual artist, not just a hip-hop powerhouse. And I suppose we can add fashion guru to his resume now. 8pm. Free. The Blacksmith Restaurant, 211 NW Greenwood Ave.
