More recent transplants might not be as familiar with the name Allan Bruckner, but the former Bend mayor has definitely made an impact in the community over the years.
And now that impact will be even more tangible with Bruckner donating $800,000 to OSU-Cascades to help the campus secure a new building (pictured to the right) on Columbia Street (off of Colorado Avenue) that will house graduate programs.
Bruckner served as mayor in the early 1990s and is currently president of Cayuga Properties here in Bend.
The donation will be added to $2 million worth of lottery bonds and funds from OSU-Cascades to purchase the nearly-$4 million building.
“Almost everyone agrees that the number one priority for a strong community is an educated populace,” Bruckner said in a press release today.
“Bend has a fine public school system, a well-established and outstanding community college, and an emerging university that deserves and needs greater support.”
