Mt. Bachelor To Decide on Thanksgiving Soon

Mt. Bachelor is waiting on this week's storm to see if Thanksgiving skiing is realistic.

For the past two ski seasons, the gods of snow and cold temperatures have blessed Mt. Bachelor with the needed white stuff to open the mountain in time for the Thanksgiving weekend.

Believe it or not, Thanksgiving is only nine days away, but Bachelor only has about seven inches of snow on the ground. That said, the forecast is looking good and when I just talked with the resort's communication's manager, Andy Goggins, he looked out his window to report that it was snowing up on the mountain.

And here's what's in store for the next few days:

"We're taking it day to day at this point. Currently, the storm system is helping out and that's encouraging," said Goggins.

Even though the coming storm is looking beefy and could drop a couple feet on the mountain, Goggins says Bachelor won't make an official decision on a Thanksgiving opening until the end of the week. Part of that reason is to ensure that once the mountain is open, it remains so for the rest of the season, rather than having a start-then-stop beginning to the winter.

"We’re cautiously optimistic. It’s looking good, so we’re hoping the best," said Goggins.
