A New York driver was stopped twice on Tuesday by state troopers in two different counties for speeding during an Cannonball Run-style rally race that spanned at least three states. Police said they were tipped off by law enforcement from Idaho and Nevada that participants in the Bullrun Rally would be traveling through the state and had drawn complaints from motorists. Police in Grant County stopped four participants from the race who were driving between 92 and 117 miles per hour. One of the drivers, Wahe Yeterian of Garden City, NY, was stopped again just hours later on Hwy 26 outside Sandy where troopers spotted his red 2012 Porsche 911 doing approximately 90 mph in a 55 mph zone.
One of the other drivers was cited twice in Grant County after "spinning his tires and speeding away" after the initial traffic stop. A sheriff's deputy caught up with the driver who was doing 88 mph a short time later.
Police said that the drivers who were cited for speeding in excess of 100 mph face fines up $1,150 and a loss of driving privileges in Oregon, up to 90 days.
That sounds pretty stiff--if you’re not the kind of person who can afford a brand new Porsche 911 and can taken, say, a week of work to take part in a rogue interstate rally.
