The Civil War: Made in California, Played in Oregon

The impending Civil War has been bringing plenty of national media attention to Oregon over the past few days, mostly from ESPN which is carrying the game tonight at 7 p.m. 6p.m. The Wall Street Journal is the latest to weigh in on the meaning of the intrastate showdown. The newspaper has an interesting piece about how both of Oregon’s teams have relied on California imports and new scholarship rules to revive their football programs.

It’s not news to most die-hard Ducks and Beaver fans, but it’s a pretty comprehensive piece about the how historic rivalry has become a proxy battle for Oregonians in a game fueled by 135 years of history but played by California imports.
