A Beer Festival Will Happen in Bend - The Little Woody

You probably know by now that the Bend Brew Fest has been canceled, but fear not, there will be a beer festival in Bend this year. Just minutes ago, the details of the Little Woody Barrel-Aged Brew Festival, slated for September 12, were laid out and the Blender is pumped, because, well, the Blender likes beer...a lot.

The fest, which is produced by the Source's sister company, Lay it Out Events, will take place in a rather unique location: the expansive lawn in front of the Des Chutes Historical Society (which will receive a portion of the proceeds) in downtown Bend. On tap will be exclusively barrel-aged brews from all of Central Oregon's breweries: Deschutes, Silver Moon, Ten Barrel, Bend Brewing, Three Creeks, Cascade Lakes, McMenamins.

In case you're not a beer snob (although if you live in Oregon, you probably are) barrel-aged beer is made in wooden barrels that might have been used or designed for wine or whiskey, often featuring a stronger flavor than other beers. Local brewers have produced these beers before, but we're thinking this is a pretty sweet chance to taste them all at once - and outdoors. Also, each brewery will create one specialty brew just for the event.

Will get you more details in next week's MicroCosmos column, so keep an eye out for that.
