A Hostile Response | Letters to the Editor | Bend | The Source Weekly - Bend, Oregon

Coverage for Central Oregon, by Central Oregonians.
100% Local. No Paywalls.

Every day, the Source publishes a mix of locally reported stories on our website, keeping you up to date on developments in news, food, music and the arts. We’re committed to covering this city where we live, this city that we love, and we hear regularly from readers who appreciate our ability to put breaking news in context.

The Source has been a free publication for its 22 years. It has been free as a print version and continued that way when we began to publish online, on social media and through our newsletters.

But, as most of our readers know, times are different for local journalism. Tech giants are hoovering up small businesses and small-business advertising—which has been the staple for locally owned media. Without these resources, journalism struggles to bring coverage of community news, arts and entertainment that social media cannot deliver.

A Hostile Response

Your cynical response to John Sabo’s letter (5/20) says all I need to know about The Source Weekly.

Your cynical response to John Sabo's letter (5/20) says all I need to know about The Source Weekly. I have 35 years of experience working in government, private industry, politics in my younger years (as a Democrat) and even a little community organizing (in Chicago no less), and I can tell you that Chris Dudley has as many tools to be a good governor as Obama's very short Senate career and "community organizing" (which means nothing in terms of running a country well). Your blind liberalism and anti-Republican approach to everything lacks any insight into real problems of our country. Every several months I check out the Source to see if it's become more enlightened (that is balanced), and I'm sad to see nothing has changed.

- Glenn Miller

Editor's note: For the record, we're not opposed to Dudley or trying to suggest that he wouldn't make a suitable governor. However, comparing his political track record to Obama's, even pre-2008, is a stretch.
