Tin Pan Theater

Every good city needs an art house movie theater. As of 2012 Bend has had its very own, thanks to Tin Pan Theater. Tucked away in what also happens to be our favorite alley, Tin Pan Alley, in an area some are trying to label the Minnesota District, is the little 28-seat theater, right next door to Lone Pine Coffee. Inside, a beautiful wood bar with contrasting-color inlays protects the old-timey popcorn maker and silver beer taps (yes, you can get a pint with your film). The reclaimed movie theater seats and exposed brick walls make the whole experience feel just as one would want it to. The movie selections have proved to be the closest Bend has to Sundance. From newly released documentaries to old favorites like those Sergio Leone films shown on Spaghetti Western Wednesdays to, yes, a direct line to picks from Sundance, the Tin Pan owners clearly have good taste. Recent screenings of five-star films Frances Ha and Dirty Wars further prove our point. (JW)
