Big Time Repubs and Dems Converge on Central Oregon: Merkley, Wyden, Conger, and Al Franken!

Oregon Summit 2011 draws big names and Conger comes to town too.

Though not all in the same place at the same time.

The Oregon Summit 2011 kicks off in Sunriver on Friday and promises to be a good ole time for area democrats. Hosted by the Democratic Party of Oregon, it's three days of workshops, presentations, and face time with many of Oregon's top elected officials. Governor John Kitzhaber opens the event at the Sunriver Resort on Friday night, hosting a reception at 7:30pm.

If you can only make one trip out there, Saturday is your day, as it includes talks from such heavy-hitters as Attorney General John Kroger, Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden (OR) as well as funny-man-turned Senator Al Franken (MN). The President of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards, is the keynote speaker Saturday night and will no doubt tell you just how far off the religious right is when it comes to birth control. Check the Oregon Summit 2011 website for a complete schedule and pricing info.

Somewhat related, Republican Rep. Jason Conger (OR) will also be in Bend tomorrow (albeit for totally different reasons and in a totally different location altogether) hosting a town hall with fellow conservative and Co-Speaker of the House, Bruce Hanna. The pair plan to fill you in on the 2011 legislative session as well as discuss priorities the upcoming year. It's free, open to the public and there's even refreshments! 6-7:30pm, Bend City Council Chambers.
