I just moved to Bend and have to say the hostility towards outsiders is a very real thing. On one hand I understand it because I work at Red Robin and we get a lot of elitists who are up from California/staying at Sunriver or another resort and going skiing. When Bend's economy is so tough it's really hard to see your town cater to outsiders so much when you're struggling to pay your bills. On the other hand, I lived in California and had a wonderful experience with the people I met there. It's important not to judge, and unfortunately sometimes the wrong people get swept up in others' assumptions.
