Come in out of the cold this winter and enjoy two heart-warming plays from Bend theater groups. Both Innovation Theatre Works and Cricket Daniels bring to the stage comedies that tackle different subject matters, but aim to make you laugh all the same.

Cricket Daniel, who most recently produced Couple Dating, returns to 2nd Street Theater with her latest production, Love, Laughter, and Lucci, which premiers on January 7. The story centers around three generations of the Santoro family all living under one roof in West Haven, Conn. Maria, a recent high school graduate, lives with her mother Gloria and grandfather Sal, though she dreams of moving to New York City and acting on the famed television soap opera All My Children, alongside her idol, Susan Lucci. Sal becomes Maria's number one supporter while Gloria pleads with her to fill out her college applications.

Love, Laughter and Lucci was recently recognized in the Stage Category at the 79th Annual Writer's Digest Writing Competition and debuted at The Festival Playhouse in Arvada, Colo.

Innovation Theatre Works presents the Northwest premiere of The Spin Cycle, a new comedy by David Rambo, beginning February 4. In The Spin Cycle, a baby boomer returns home for Thanksgiving and must confront her aging mother's health issues. Additionally, the sibling rivalry between her and her brother, who is a life-long slacker, is reignited. The play is presented from three different perspectives, providing comedic results. The story gives the audience an opportunity to laugh at relatable circumstances, while also highlighting the serious undertones of aging.

Eileen Desandre, a 15-year veteran of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, stars in the production. Desandre has had a broad successful career with roles in such plays as A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Man Who Came to Dinner, and Chicago, among many others. (AP)
