The Bend SummerFest has earned a reputation for cramming a staggering amount of music into the two-and-a-half-day festival, and this year is no exception. With a total of five stages, the festival provides everything from hip-hop to jazz to bluegrass, and it’s all free. The only drawback is, you probably won't find time to hear all of it. To maximize your experience, here are a few bands that should draw your attention.
Rickie Lee Jones
Friday 7/13 9 p.m.
Mirror Pond Parking Lot
It’s not every day one can see a free concert from a legendary singer, but with sultry adult contemporary singer Rickie Lee Jones headlining the Lite 95.1 Listener Appreciation lineup, Friday will be one of those days. You’ll hear a little bit of rock, a little bit of jazz, and a little bit of whatever sound the sometimes-experimental Jones decides to employ.
Boom Chick
Saturday 7/14 3 p.m.
Peak 104.1 Mainstage
Brooklyn New York's male-female duo Boom Chick might just prove to be the standout band of the entire festival and comes with a strong “must see” recommendation. Combining gritty surf rock with honky tonk and blues, Boom Chick creates summertime rock-and-roll, perfect for a hot afternoon.
Jeff Kashiwa
Saturday 7/14 5 p.m.
Amalia’s Jazz, Wine and Gourmet Foods Stage
Seattle saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa is one of the Pacific Northwest’s true jazz treasures. A former member of legendary group The Rippingtons, Kashiwa brings some old school funk and new age R&B into his own blend of smooth saxophone jazz.
