    Re: “Letters 6/9-6/16
Dear Anonymous Kid Hater - I believe I've seen your drivel on here before. Substitute some other terms for "kids" in your letter and you'll see how ridiculous your stance is : try "old people", "dogs", "gays", for starters. Hopefully you get it.

This is great info, and unfortunately not common knowledge for many cyclists and drivers. One thing I would add is concerning crosswalk usage by bicycles : as mentioned above, cyclists can use crosswalks at walking speed. But what many people are unaware of is that there is a virtual crosswalk at every intersection - it does not need to be marked. So be an awesome driver and stop for all pedestrians and cyclists trying to get across crosswalks - marked or not.

So if I catch your drift here, you represent the kind of person who aligns himself with the Romney camp ? Well that makes my choice easy : Gobama !

Too funny - after reading your agressive and mild profanity-laced tirade, the only 'mental connection' I'm making here is that someone as immature and irresponsible as you should definitely have their 2nd amendment rights revoked. But to be fair, I agree that 'well-trained civilians' could be enforcers - too bad the government doesn't have the resources to screen out all the wackos.

    Re: “Butt Out
I have nothing against smokers who do so responsibly - and I applaud you for not littering your butts. I have smoker friends I go camping with, and they pack out all their butts as well. But ya gotta admit, it seems like you're in the minority, given the butt-piles all over the place. It's just not part of our overall social consciousness to view cigarette butts as litter. Try this experiment : in front of a group of people, open a candy bar, and let the wrapper fall on the ground. No doubt someone will point out to you that you 'accidentally' dropped your wrapper. Now do the same thing with your cigarette : no reaction probably. A similar thing applies to chewing gum - note flattened splats of discarded gum on streets and sidewalks. I'm no vigilante - just observing the mindset here. I could go on about how many people are oblivous to how their actions affect other humans and the environment, but that's enough for today :)

Good luck! I totally agree, but to a smoker, cigarette butts are somehow 'acceptable litter'. Have you ever tried calling out a smoker when they throw their butts onto the ground, or out a car window ? I've had some nasty encounters, almost resulting in fights, etc. It's a mindset that is somehow ingrained into our culture, and most people, including non-smokers, don't see how ridiculous it is. Their time will come - 20 years ago it was 'acceptable' to let your dog shit all over the place, but now the majority of dog-owners carry bags and dispose of the excrement properly. Eventually most smokers will be carrying small butt-disposal devices, like say in another 20 years if we're lucky. This will happen when somehow it becomes uncool to treat the world as your ashtray.

At least it's summer and we don't have to deal with large groups of children taking over the crosswalks for 10 minutes at a time while they walk to school. Nothing infuriates me more than having to sit there twiddling my thumbs while all those kids nonchalantly take over the road. There should be a law about having only 5 pedestrians allowed on a crosswalk at any one time. I've been late more than once because of this - and then I have to drive even faster afterwards so I'm not even later. I won't tell you what would happen if I were to then encounter a herd of cyclists taking over the road...
