With performances by last year's headliners like Pearl Jam, Metallica and Jack Johnson, the disc also pays attention to the smaller stages for shows by de facto festival house band My Morning Jacket, as well as Broken Social Scene, The Raconteurs, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and plenty more. There's also some killer sets by lesser known acts that will certainly catch your attention like Two Gallants, Gogol Bordello and Oregon favorites (by way of the South) the Avett Brothers. And, just like Bonnaroo itself, there isn't a band that's not worth your time in the entire film.
In addition to the 16 live performances by 16 different bands included on the disc, the film is also peppered with crowd shots and interviews of artists and fans alike adding a nice all-encompassing look at the summer event that has gradually become the banner carrier for all summer festivals.
There are shots of tent assembly in the campgrounds, a good quarter mile of food vendors and Bonarooians bathing in the famous mushroom fountain. If you went to Bonnaroo 2008, this should serve as a video scrapbook of that trip and if you didn't make it, well, it will probably make you jealous as all hell. You can get this DVD at bonnaroo.com, which is where you'll probably return soon after viewing it to buy yourself a ticket for the 2009 edition.
