It's great to be poor in the green movement! Now when I ride my bike, it doesn't have to be because my car broke down
three months ago and I have no way to fix it, it can be because I am reducing my carbon footprint. Now, when I eat two small organic meals a day to save money, it's because I am only taking just my fair share from the world food bank. When I don't go on vacations because I don't have the money, it's that much less fossil fuel pumped into the air by jumbo jets. And, yeah, so I can't go to the doctor - well, it's that much less medical waist (needles, test tubes, gloves etc.) that ends up in landfills, on beaches, and mid ocean. Hey, I am just doing my part.
Ok, ok, so maybe this doesn't sound THAT glamorous, but it gives me something that my ego can hang onto. Yeah, so what I am not driving an SUV to the grocery store, but at least I am getting a toned butt, and feeling the burden of the global climate crisis rest just a little lighter on my shoulders. When I impound my car in a month because it's a crapper, I can say it's because I am "environmentally conscious." Never mind the fact that I have a year old son. But that's a whole other story. I feel so good about myself. So poor people of Bend stand up! And be proud of yourselves! There ought to be more of us! Who needs a middle class anyway?... cough, cough.
