Johnny McVenture, EASTERN OREGON: | Winter Adventure | Bend | The Source Weekly - Bend, Oregon

Coverage for Central Oregon, by Central Oregonians.
100% Local. No Paywalls.

Every day, the Source publishes a mix of locally reported stories on our website, keeping you up to date on developments in news, food, music and the arts. We’re committed to covering this city where we live, this city that we love, and we hear regularly from readers who appreciate our ability to put breaking news in context.

The Source has been a free publication for its 22 years. It has been free as a print version and continued that way when we began to publish online, on social media and through our newsletters.

But, as most of our readers know, times are different for local journalism. Tech giants are hoovering up small businesses and small-business advertising—which has been the staple for locally owned media. Without these resources, journalism struggles to bring coverage of community news, arts and entertainment that social media cannot deliver.

Please consider becoming a supporter of locally owned journalism through our Source Insider program. Learn more about our program’s benefits by clicking through today.

Johnny McVenture, EASTERN OREGON:

Grab a pint at Terminal Gravity Brewing Enjoy handcrafted brews from the cabana-turned-brewery public house in the tiny town of Enterprise. The pub, which lies adjacent to the brewery grounds, has been offering up brews since 1996. Try the IPA— a copper-colored ale with hints of grapefruit and caramel, or the winter seasonal Festivale, which has doses of caramel, toffee and brown sugar tones.

Ski gnarly powder Nestled in the Blue Mountains, Anthony Lakes ski area offers some of the best "champagne powder" in the nation. Boasting the highest base elevation in Oregon at 7,100 feet, Anthony Lakes is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. A good day to go is half-price Thursdays. Only $17.50 for this weekly special, which is quite a steal, but a new promotion lets you actually "own" the mountain for a day. This deal lets groups have full control of the rock garden chair lift for an entire day. After mountain fun, you can rent the 16-foot yurt a quarter-mile from the lodge for $200 a night.
