MDC: Rocked Against Reagan

Punking it old school. If you think punk rock got political during the G. W. Bush administration, you're way off. For example, let us introduce you to MDC (whose initials stand for the superbly offensive - to some - Millions of Dead Cops), a band that was rocking against Reagan for crying out loud.

That's right, back in 1982, MDC was already railing against Reagan and playing with bands like the Dead Kennedys and other forefathers of punk rock. From there, MDC cultivated a hardcore punk following that helped the band survive until 1995, when they went on hiatus until 2000. But now, the band, calling Portland home, are back on the road and with front man David Dictor, now 52 years young, still holding the mic and flanked with other original members.

And don't get too hung up on the name - the band has used several incarnations of MDC throughout the years, releasing albums under the names Millions of Dead Children, Millions of Damn Christians, Metal Devil Cokes and Multi-Death Corporations - which are either more or less offensive to you, depending on your stance on any number of issues. Whatever the name, this is classic punk rock - the way it used to be - and not a show to be missed by punks of any age or political persuasion.

MDC, Embrace the Kill, Larry and His Flask, Tuck and Roll
7pm doors, 7:30pm show. Saturday, March 21. $10/advance, $12/door. All Ages.
