Why it's time for Oregon to get behind Obama. I support Barack Obama because both he and I are Patriotic Americans who believe OUR flag

Why it's time for Oregon to get behind Obama. I support Barack Obama because both he and I are Patriotic Americans who believe OUR flag can once again stand for what it has long represented ... a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Barack Obama and I also agree that "the people" referred to in the Declaration of Independence consists of each and every individual citizen of the United States, whether born on our soil or naturalized citizens. We are, with all due respect to our Native American Indian citizens, a nation of immigrants.

John McCain and his band of Republican "carpetbaggers" have spent the past twenty plus years trying to morph our glorious flag into the equivalent of the Corporate Logo for their use in the Global Economy ... where the jobs go overseas and the profits go to insiders and corporate investors, and where "we the people" pick up the tab when the feces hits the fan.

John McCain and his band of Republican "carpetbaggers" embrace a simple minded, cynical notion of Corporate Personhood that gives enormous political power and influence over our governmental and political affairs to foreign nationals so long as they wield that influence ($$$$$$$$$$) through their investments in and control over any domestically incorporated entity.
On January 20, 2001 George W. Bush raised his right hand, placing his left hand on his favorite Bible and swore an oath to his God that he would protect the Constitution of the United States of America. Since then, with reckless impunity, he and his shrewd political operatives have severely tarnished our nation's global reputation and violated our country's most cherished Constitutional Rights and Federal Laws by spying on American citizens, imprisoning and torturing human beings in violation of the Geneva Convention, and planting politically loyal lawyers in our Federal Judiciary in order to circumvent our U.S. Constitution's MOST IMPORTANT FEATURE ... the celebrated separation of powers between the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch and the Judiciary. Whereas the fictional Robin Hood stole from the rich to give to the poor, this modern day Robbin' Hood and his band of merry men steal from the poor and give to their rich loyal benefactors like Halliburton and "God only knows" who else.

With your and my help, on January 20, 2009 Barack Obama will raise his right hand, placing his left hand on his favorite Bible and swear an oath to his God that he will protect the Constitution of the United States of America.

Why? Because ...

having graduated from Harvard Law School (the #2 Law School in America), and ...

having received one of its most prestigious honors, President of the Harvard Law Review (an award bestowed by all of his peers, including those who also sought this plum, which can be worth $ millions over the course of one's career) and ...

having taught Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago Law School (the #7 Law School in America) for over 10 years, and ...

quite unlike his predecessor, George W. Bush ...BARACK OBAMA actually knows the difference between the U.S. Constitution and a "morning constitutional".

  • The Other Half of the Yoga Equation

The Source Issue 45 (Nov. 10) contained wonderful information about the forms of yoga offered in our vicinity. Most of the information covered pertained to the socially enjoyable forms of yoga enjoyed by the folks who use yoga mats and bendy posturing as they concentrate on improving their blissful breathing techniques. These physical forms of yoga are the beautiful compliments to the mental, mindful and meditative forms of yoga that balance the larger yoga (yogic) equation. Yoga is basically a non-denominational practice aimed at balancing the physical (body) existence with the meta-physical (mind) reality. The ensuing mind-body balance creates the union required for an increased "understanding" (consciousness) of the "living experience."

  • Walden's Corporate Servitude

In the time-honored American tradition of peaceful civil disobedience, I am proud to be one of eight Central Oregon citizens arrested on December 5 in Congressman Greg Walden's Bend office. At our January 26 trial we plan to present a compelling defense. This act of dissent follows years of futile attempts to encourage the Congressman to hold open, unscripted town meetings accessible to a majority of his constituents. The Congressman has grown so suspicious of impromptu encounters with ordinary citizens that on Saturday he required a Bend Police Department intervention that enabled him to enter the Water Project meeting at the Chamber of Commerce through the back door. (Greg, we are nonviolent people who believe that democracy thrives on open dialogue and transparency; there is no reason to avoid us.)

I had to respond to "What's Wrong with Siri," (News, 1-4) since Apple's Siri isn't the problem. Three hours before I read, "What's wrong with Siri," I went to a store in town and complimented the cashier that this was the nicest "dollar" store I had ever been in.
