Missing Woman Case Appears to be Murder-Suicide, Say Bend Police

Police say disappearance of Bend resident Sandra Meyer is now a murder-suicide.

We got a press release from Bend police this afternoon indicating that the ongoing investigation into the March 9 disappearance of 72-year-old Bend resident Sandra Meyer has turned up evidence indicating that Meyer's husband, John, was likely responsible for her death.

John Meyer (pictured to the right) was found dead in his home on March 16 and just yesterday the Deschutes County Medical examiner determined that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Also yesterday, authorities determined through DNA analysis that blood found in the Meyer residence, including a substantial amount in a heating duct, was that of Sandra.

Police also say that Sandra's purse was found underneath the house by family members.

A pair of notes authored by John were found in the home, but police say John denied any involvement in Sandra's disappearance and/or death in his writings.

The search continues for Sandra after searches around the home by dogs and members of the county's search and rescue team failed to lead to any discoveries. Police are asking for the public's help as they continue to investigate what they're calling a "homicide-suicide."

Anyone who may have seen either of the Meyers (or their vehicles, pictured below) between March 8 and March 10, is asked to call Bend police at 541-322-2960.
