The Deschutes Public Libraries have been providing after school craft and game programs for children and teenagers on a regular basis, but until now it seems a certain group has been left out of the fun. Adults now have the opportunity once a month to join others in their community for a night of either gaming or crafting.
Adult Recess, a new program at the Sunriver Area Public Library, allows adults to take a break from the daily grind to recapture playtime with friends. Each month patrons of the library will have the chance to come together to play board games or Wii games, or get in touch with their creative side with a craft where supplies are provided. Shawna Dailey, a library assistant at the Sunriver Area Public Library, has planned crafts for the upcoming months that include Valentines, tote bag decorations, wine bottle vases, shrinky dink jewelry, and granny square crocheting.
Sheila Grier, Community Librarian at Sunriver Area Public Library, says, “I’d love to provide a place for adults to get together, meet new people, and create something.”
All are welcome and encouraged to join in on the fun. The program is aimed towards adult patrons in their late teens through thirties who may not have another place to socialize. Personally, I'm excited for the chance to meet new people in a friendly environment that doesn't revolve around a bar, or spending money.
This month's inaugural activities include classic games like Bananagrams, Yahtzee, Sorry, and Clue. The evening will also include snacks, cream soda (yum!) and music.
Dailey hopes people will take away a new friend or two and the feeling of an evening well spent.
I'll be in attendance and I'm pretty good at Bananagrams, so if you'd like to come down and challenge The Source's calendar editor to a game or two - it's on!
The 2nd Tuesday of every month beginning tonight.
6:30pm. Sunriver Area Public Library, 56855 Venture Ln, Sunriver.
