Geoff - The editorial does say it filled up quickly, but the nonprofit does have other energy assistance programs.

John -- the story has since been labeled "Commentary," as it should have been. We regret the error.

Hey Sundevils - There are two interpretations for the phrase "bike rack," and one of them refers to the bike racks people use on their cars to cart their bikes around—assumingly to the trails, because the number of cyclists in Bend is certainly not equal to the number of people who ride their bikes where they need to go. We have a fun term for Bend here at the Source: It's a "Bike Rack Town," rather than a "Bike Commuter Town." Doesn't look like the letter-writer was referring to the car type of bike rack here, but in any case, you're right—sometimes it does take work to find somewhere to lock that bike around town. The way I see it, if a business doesn't have a bike rack, they're inviting you to bring your nice bike inside!

Hey Thomas - In these times of shrinking news budgets and editorial opinions that around these parts are few and far between (and at other local outlets, often watered-down opinions at that), our editorial board still believes that the work we do communicating regularly with our local governments and other community organizations gives us a unique perspective on the place we live. From that perspective, we believe we owe it to our readers to, on one page of the paper, tell you plainly what we think about issues that matter to your lives. If reading our take on city, county and state matters is not what you're here for, don't worry -- we'll keep bringing you plenty of those other things you like, too. Thanks for reading!

Jane: People in the Owyhee still travel out of the Owhyee. To your other comment, we've added a clarification to the piece.

Thanks for the clarification, Mayor Kebler. We've updated the piece and will run a correction in next week's paper.
