Perhaps the greatest thing to come out of Salem since (insert the name of your favorite state politician), Kid Espi is a humorous yet skilled hip-hop artists who has an album out entitled Sweatshirt Birthday Party. The Federation, Nump, Cloaked Characters

There's another hip-hop show going on Friday night, and this one is down at the Domino Room where Bay Area krunksters The Federation are taking the stage. The energy-drink-touting group made some waves earlier this decade with their cut "Hyphy" and are still cranking out albums. You should make sure to show up on time for this one because locals Cloaked Characters have been in prime form at their last few shows and are certainly worth seeing. $15/adv, $20/door. 9pm. Chances are, you saw this not-so-eloquently named game being played at either backyard barbecue or campsite this summer. If you're not savvy, Cornhole requires teams to toss beanbags toward a board with, yes, a hole in it. It's more exciting than it sounds on paper. Eric Tollefson, James Orr

Here's the strange thing - Tollefson is mostly soft, bluesy and poppy on his disc, Sum of the Parts, but when you put him with his live band, which includes Empty Spacers Pat Pearsall and Lindsey Elias, the dude can rock it. He did just that when opening for G. Love this summer and will probably do that again on Saturday night. Make sure you arrive early to see James Orr, a one-man Boise-based rock machine with a lovely David Gray sorta sound. $5. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

The man who played Lou on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and a bizillion other television shows (and earned seven Emmys in the process) is portraying FDR, one of our nation's most storied presidents? Well, yeah, we guess we can see that working. Considering the reviews for this one-man show, it must work quite well. Also, did you know Asner was the voice of the old man in Up?
