The third installment of the Powerpoint presentation show hits the Tower this week with another wide variety of talks, as well as some music from Kousefly. Slideshows have never been this exciting and this time through, topics include fire, running, diabetes beer and walking, among others. $3 suggested donation. 6:30pm Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

Namaspa Movie Night:
2012: The Mayan Calendar

thursday 15

You've heard all the gloom and doom about 2012 by now and rather than sit aimlessly waiting for three years to pass so you can just get this all over with already, head to this documentary screening and get the facts (or, um, assumptions) on what the Mayans say about 2012. $5, kids free. Bring a chair or cushion. 7:30pm Thursday, Oct 15. Namaspa Yoga Studio, 1135 NW Galveston Ave.

The Kid Espi, Tope & Epp, Theorey Hazit, Top Shelf

friday 16

Perhaps the greatest thing to come out of Salem since (insert the name of your favorite state politician), Kid Espi is a humorous yet skilled hip-hop artists who has an album out entitled Sweatshirt Birthday Party. Now that's an album title. Also on the bill is a gaggle of other hip-hoppers including the local boys of Top Shelf. 9pm. Bendistillery Martini Bar, 850 NW Brooks St.

The Federation, Nump, Cloaked Characters

friday 16

There's another hip-hop show going on Friday night, and this one is down at the Domino Room where Bay Area krunksters The Federation are taking the stage. The energy-drink-touting group made some waves earlier this decade with their cut "Hyphy" and are still cranking out albums. You should make sure to show up on time for this one because locals Cloaked Characters have been in prime form at their last few shows and are certainly worth seeing. $15/adv, $20/door. 9pm. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Tracorum, Shayna and the Bulldog

friday 16

The Silver Moon keeps booking awesomely talented indie rock bands and these two California acts are no exception. We've grown especially fond of Shayna and the Bulldog, who have an awesomely Dr. Dog-ish sound - which is a very good thing. $5. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co. 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

1st Annual Battle of the Bags:
A Cornhole Tournament

saturday 17

Chances are, you saw this not-so-eloquently named game being played at either backyard barbecue or campsite this summer. If you're not savvy, Cornhole requires teams to toss beanbags toward a board with, yes, a hole in it. It's more exciting than it sounds on paper. All the entries fees for this tourney benefit Bend's Ronald McDonald House. $50/team. Call 318-4950 for more info. 12pm-9pm. Boston's Restaurant and Sports Bar, 61276 S Hwy 97.

Eric Tollefson, James Orr

saturday 17

Here's the strange thing - Tollefson is mostly soft, bluesy and poppy on his disc, Sum of the Parts, but when you put him with his live band, which includes Empty Spacers Pat Pearsall and Lindsey Elias, the dude can rock it. He did just that when opening for G. Love this summer and will probably do that again on Saturday night. Make sure you arrive early to see James Orr, a one-man Boise-based rock machine with a lovely David Gray sorta sound. $5. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

The Dry County Crooks

saturday 17

The last few shows here in Bend by this outlaw country act have been ragers, and don't think this Black Horse show will be any exception. 9pm-2am. Black Horse Saloon, 20565 Brinson Blvd.

Leo Kottke

saturday 17

Turn to the Sound page for our interview with the legendary Minnesota musician. As of press time, there were still some tickets available. Check towertheatre.org to get yours. $40, $51. 7pm. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

Ed Asner as FDR

tuesday 20

What? The man who played Lou on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and a bizillion other television shows (and earned seven Emmys in the process) is portraying FDR, one of our nation's most storied presidents? Well, yeah, we guess we can see that working. Considering the reviews for this one-man show, it must work quite well. Also, did you know Asner was the voice of the old man in Up? Cool, eh? $35 or $40/reserved. 7:30pm Tuesday, Oct 20. Tower Theatre, 835 Wall St.
