After a long weekend of revelry, the mantra that goes through many of our heads is some variation on the Replacements lyric "All I want to do is drink beer for breakfast"-plus a little caffeine and a little grease, of course. In polite society the manifestation of this sentiment is brunch. You go to an upscale restaurant and drop a bundle on a goat cheese and chive frittata for the excuse to drink the thimbleful of champagne in your mimosa. Walking around downtown on Sunday morning may not immediately reveal Bend's nod to this great American tradition. But behind the blackened glass and neon beer signs of some of the city's nighttime favorites lies brunch in the true Western spirit. Without fanfare or euphemism, you'll get brunch for real men-simply, breakfast in a bar. And real men don't eat quiche-or brioche French toast or the crepe du jour. For a fraction of the price and no compromise in quality or satisfaction, you'll find the cure for what ails you, possibly at the very place you had last call. Corey's and D&D, practically mirroring each other on Bond, are among the best options. Corey's sausage and cheese omelet with a side of sausage links smothered in a sea of sausage gravy will make you wonder why you ever ate anything else. Complement it with a Bloody Mary garnished with pickled asparagus, pepperoncini, and olives in a tall, salted glass. More thirsty than hungry? Chase D&D's "lite" breakfast-egg, breakfast meat of choice, perfectly crisped hash browns, and a flaky biscuit-with the house signature Bloody Mary made with veggie-infused vodka. Or, go ahead and order that beer. It may be 10 a.m., but there's already a drunken crowd gathering in the back shouting at the football game. Nobody here will mind. - Alice Finer
