Coming up this Saturday is the annual $20 art sale, where you can get an armful of art for what truly seems like a steal. Most of the art is small—not a surprise because of the low prices. However, if this year is like previous years, the art is charming, making perfect additions to small art collections.

The show, held Oct. 20, already has more artists participating this year than in years past, meaning more work and more variety of work. All pieces are sold first-come, first-serve, and visitors are limited to five paintings at a time. If you want more, you can simply go back to the end of the line. What's especially great: The artists keep all the money. There's very little of it, but what I truly love about this show every year is that it gives artists a way to make a quick buck and work on smaller pieces or pieces they may not typically create otherwise, exploring and expanding their repertoire to see what pops up. If you've never thought about buying art or you realize it's not something you often do, try this event. This is a great way to start a small art collection—and maybe even make a gallery in your hallway of interesting, quirky gems. This event is always chock-full of them.
