Snow Hiders Guide

The Source suggests five winter events that have nothing to do with snow.

Jazz at the Oxford

Oct. 25-26, Nov. 22-23, Dec. 27-28, Jan. 17-18, Feb 21-22, March 14-15

World-class jazz in cowboy country: The series kicks off with Javon Jackson Band and the impeccable soul-jazz of pianist Les McCann. All happening comfortably and cozily indoors at the toasty Oxford Hotel.

Nature of Words Literary Festival

Nov. 7-10

Mingle with six accomplished authors during a weekend of lectures, workshops and open mics. Featuring novelist Jim Lynch, who wrote the wonderfully enticing coming-of-age in Puget Sound novel The Highest Tide, saucy local poet Emily Carr and Nature of Words founder Ellen Waterson. Read about nature instead of exposing yourself to the elements.

Evil Dead the Musical (Dead for the Holidays)

Dec. 5-15

The holiday rendition of our favorite musical where the lead has a chainsaw arm. Only $25 to sit in the "splatter zone," and believe us, there will be plenty of splatter to go around. Get your hands in some warm and inviting zombie guts.

Reading of David Sedaris' "The Santa Land Diaries"

Dec. 7-21

Derek Sitter performs David Sedaris' cynical reflections on working as a Christmas elf at Macy's SantaLand. Warm your heart with holiday spirit.

New Year's Party with Larry and His Flask

Dec. 31-Jan 1

Ring in 2014 with a drunken two-day dance-party at the 10th annual Larry and His Flask New Year's celebration at the Old Stone. Consume whiskey and feel fuzzy on the inside.
