David Jacob Strain and Crunk Mountain Boys

Slide guitar and poetry are rarely better matched than in the hands of David Jacob Strain, the Oregonian who specializes in rootsy blues songwriting. Strain captures the Laurel Canyon style of James Taylor and Jackson Browne—simultaneously complex and accessible. 8 pm. Sat., Oct. 25. Belfry, 302 E Main St. Sisters. $10.

Jamie Stillway

After studying classical guitar in high school, learning ragtime and the blues with legendary picker Kenny Sultan, and being inspired by the riffs of Led Zeppelin, Jamie Stillway built her own unique acoustic style combining West Coast blues, classical, folk and jazz. Her grab bag of influences is intriguing and the way she plucks her music from the ether makes for a present low-key performance. 7 pm. Sat., Oct. 25. String Theory Music, 1273 NW Wall St. $10.

Slow Motion Cowboy

Slow Motion Cowboy makes traveling music, reminiscent of watching the yellow lines of Kansas roll by in the cab of an 18-wheeler or the limping of an old tired mare sauntering through the fields. The band is made up of ringing slide guitar stripped-down guitar chords, and the sweet well-traveled vocals of Pete Fields (could there be a better name for a traditional alt-country singer/songwriter?) echoing in classic waltzes and down tempo, truly American tunes. 8 pm. Sun., Oct. 26. Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Dr. $5.
