TONIGHT! Blitz to the Barrel

The 2013 edition of Blitz to the Barrel, a mostly-downhill, invite-only pro mountain bike race with a $20,000 cash purse, is back and as always, finishes at 10 Barrel Brewing Company on Galveston Ave.

If unfamiliar, here's a look a last year's race, which ends with a beer-chug at the finish line and, later, an arm wrestling competition (don't mind the trashy metal music):

The race starts at Wanoga and follows Funner down to a road crossing, over to COD, to Tetherow and the "Big Air" jump (Read: spectator friendly. Also, beer.), to Skyliners Rd. before finishing on the 10 Barrel sidewalk. Racers aren't done until they slam a beer.

Women start at 5:30pm, the men take off at 6:30pm. Expect both groups to be down to 10 Barrel an hour after starting and to Tetherow in 45-50 minutes. Local rippers Lindsey Voreis and Serena Bishop-Gordon will be repping the women, alongside out-of-town national pros like Kelli Emmett. Adam Craig, Carl Decker, Ryan Trebon and Barry Wicks are toeing the line in the the men's race. This year, Canada's Geoff Kabush, one of North America's most successful and dominate XC racers, is in town to fight for the win. Should be a good one.
