This Love is fleeting

Eugene-based singer/songwriter Tyler Fortier's fourth album, This Love is Fleeting, shines with Americana flare and folk-tinged rock numbers. Fortier's vocals are laced with just the slightest amount of rasp, which very well might leave you with a love for the record that is anything but fleeting.

Fortier, who spent part of his youth in Bend, opens the collection with "Blue Sky and Sunshine Again," a strong number that immediately brought to mind early Bob Dylan. The song perfectly blends acoustic guitar with a healthy dose of harmonica for an emotional tale of lost love.

"The Sound of Rain" takes the biggest leap away from the center of the musical landscape Fortier has created on This Love, and that's not a bad thing. Fortier kicks up the tempo when he brings his country influences to the forefront on this strident tune, which hints at the potential the songwriter has when on stage with a live band. "Pay No Mind" showcases Fortier's vocal capabilities, showing his range and emotion. And when he holds on the "I," while singing the chorus, your heart can't help but ache at his overwhelming passion.

Over the course of the album, Fortier gives us a good idea of who he is as a musician. His talent and flexibility as a singer, songwriter and producer are apparent and he never overstays his welcome on any one style. Fortier has created a cohesive and memorable album, sure to make it's way onto more than a few iPods this summer.
