While waiting for our table, I overheard a young woman mention Zydeco's crispy fries ($4) were the best in town. I needed no further encouragement. We ordered two cups of fries for the table and one cheese-less Acadian Flatbread ($11), a crispy hand-rolled cracker-bread, topped with oven-fried tomatoes, pearl onions and pepper. I could have eaten the entire thing myself; three, in fact.
The chef's vegan special consisted of a large plate filled with roasted vegetables (carrots, peas, pearl onions, green beans, and mushrooms) tossed in a fabulous Creole tomato sauce ($16). My husband decided to deviate from our diet, choosing the Grilled Eggplant, Spinach and Goat Cheese Crepes ($16). He took a bite of mine then his and decided he should have made that two chef's specials.
There's nothing that pleases me more than a glass of bubbles with dinner and a restaurant that offers sparkling wine by the glass. I went for the fun pink can of Sophia ($5).
In general I'm too full to order dessert by the time I eat appetizers, my entrée, and two cans of Sophia, which is probably for the best since it's rare to find an establishment with any kind of vegan sweet thing. Zydeco does offer free homemade dog biscuits to take home to Fido. Unfortunately, ours is as finicky as me when it comes to food, with allergies to meat, wheat; even rice and potatoes. Luckily for him he loves grapes, and me, well; there's always bubbles.
