JOBS: President Barack Obama signed this morning an executive order barring federal contractors from discriminating against employees based on gender identity or sexual orientation. Though Oregon bars this type of workplace discrimination, it is still legal in 32 states to fire or harass someone at work for being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. (Huffington Post)
R.I.P.: Former Oregon Gov. Vic Atiyeh, the son of Syrian immigrants and the state's last Republican governor, died of kidney failure last night. Atiyeh, who held this office from 1979 to 1987 and is credited with leading Oregon out of the recession in the 1980s, was 91. (Oregon Live)
PRISON BREAK: A Deschutes County Jail inmate escaped last night while on a work crew and is still on the loose. Keith Allen Schmidtke was being held on charges of identity theft, first-degree theft, second-degree criminal mischief and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle. (KTVZ)
