Year End Blowout: How to properly dispose of 2008

Another New Year's Eve is on its way, bringing with it an array of nightlife options for you to pick from. It's nice to have choices on the one night in which you are allowed, nay, encouraged to let yourself go bonkers or bananas or both. And we'll give you plenty of choices but first, we'll cut to the chase...

The Source Weekly's New Year's Eve Wig Out

We're throwing a party, and you're invited. And it's going to be ATQA (Awesome to Quite Awesome), if you were wondering. We're calling it a Wig Out, because well, you're supposed to wear a wig. Any sort of wig is acceptable...mullets are encouraged, as are Marge Simpson-esque bee hives, Pippi Longstalkings look-a-likes and multi colored numbers. Just don't be the A-hole who shows up wearing a knit cap with fake dreads hanging from the sides...that's just ridiculous.

Other than comparing faux hairstyles, we'll also be providing other entertainment in the form of music by El Dante, Mosley Wotta and Empty Space Orchestra. Not to toot our own horn (OK, maybe just a little tootage is permissible) in terms of party bands, this triple threat lineup is pretty much the cat's pajamas. You'll get all funked up on El Dante (who may or may not issue their cover of "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough"), raise your beers and your IQs to the cerebral hip-hop of Mosley Wotta, and then groove 2008 right out of your system with the much buzzed about Empty Space Orchestra.

There's beer from Ten Barrel Brewing Co. (formerly Wildfire Brewing) and all sorts of other concoctions from the party purveyors from the Grove. Seriously, you don't want to miss this.

8pm doors, music starts at 9pm. Old Stone Church, 157 NW Franklin Ave. $25/advance.

New Year's Eve at the Moon

Photo by Ben Moon. The Silver Moon is getting into the NYE mix, announcing late last week that they're bringing in the David Bowers Colony to ring in the New Year. Bowers has been relatively quiet in the past few months, but we heard straight from the man himself that 2009 is fixin' to be a good one for DBC.

8pm. Silver Moon Brewing, 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

McMenamins New Year's Eve Celebration

The main draw of this party is a free performance by Bend favorites Moon Mountain Ramblers, who are likely to give a sample of their soon-to-be-released album Let it All Be Good. MMR is playing their high-energy take on bluegrass in the somewhat snug Father Luke Room (we predict it'll get pretty crowded in there), but if you want to throw down some cash, you can see a set by Sonny Hess & The Power Band in the movie theater...that is if you buy a dinner or overnight package. Space is limited, but check out mcmenamins.com or call 382-5174 for details.

9pm. McMenamins Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St.

New Year's Eve Bash: Three Creeks Brewing Co.

Sisters' newest watering hole, and only brewery, is bringing some excitement on New Year's to the cowboy town with this all-out bash. Providing the tunes is the new local reggae and funk outfit Second Hand Soldiers. This band might look familiar, considering some of the members were previously in the now-defunct local act Rhyme and Reason.

Buck 'N' Ball

If you like country music and watching men ride wild bulls, then this is probably the best way to ring in 2009. Skilled Oregon cowboys ride their way to glory, and then you get to dance your achy breaky heart out to some live music and fireworks!

6pm doors. Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center, 3800 SW Airport Way, Redmond.

There's still more going on for New Year's Eve. For a complete schedule, flip to the Clubs and Live Music calendar.
